The difference of concealed hinge and butt hinge of interior door

First, let us to learn about the concealed and butt hinge.

If we define the concealed and butt hinge,

Concealed hinge: Hidden between door leaf and door frame, when the door is closed, we can’t see it.

Butt hinge: connect door leaf and door frame, when the door is closed, The spindle is exposed between the door leaf and the door frame.

We try to introduce the difference of concealed hinge and butt hinge for interior doors.

  1. Butt hinge not adjustable, Hidden hinges are directional adjustable, The door can be adjusted in height, front and rear, left and right directions, This solves the troubles caused by non-standard installation operations and deformation of the door during use.

2. Beauty

When the door is closed, the hinge is exposed between the door leaf and the door frame, and the gap between the door and the door frame is relatively large. The concealed hinges are invisible when the door is closed, and the gap between the door and the door frame is normally 2-3mm. It is the aesthetic pursuit needs of people for a better home environment in the future.

3. Load capacity

In terms of the structural movement principle of the product, the butt hinge adopts a single-axis fixed movement structure, and the load-bearing capacity is better. The concealed hinge adopts a multi-axis (normally 7-axis) movement structure, and the load-bearing capacity will be weaker. However, the quality of the load-bearing capacity will directly affect the sagging deformation of the door, thereby reducing the service life. Therefore, when choosing an invisible hinge, it is necessary to combine the relevant requirements of the door and the hinge.

4. Anti-theft

When the door is closed, the butt hinge spindle is exposed, which will lead to poor anti-theft performance due to damage to the shaft. concealed hinges are relatively better against theft because the hinges are completely hidden when the door is closed.

5. When the door is closed, there is a foreign object stuck, because of the structural movement principle of the butt hinge, the damage is small. However, when the concealed  hinge is closed with a foreign object, the damage to the door and the hinge will be relatively large. Although concealed hinges are installed, the door gap after opening the door is relatively small, and it is difficult to jam large objects. We should also pay attention to the process of closing the door.

6. In the case of the same torque, generally speaking, the material requirements for the door are low for the butt hinge, while the material requirements for the door are high for the concealed hinge. On the other hand, because the concealed hinge needs to be deeply processed on the door and the door frame, the material requirements are more prominent when the number of fixed points is reduced.
