Whether you are a supplier, wholesaler, or importer, understanding CE certification is essential when dealing with EU import trade. The CE mark is the safety symbol for the European Common Market, indicating that a product complies with EU regulations. It is considered a passport for manufacturers to access and enter the European market. Any product bearing the CE mark can be sold in all EU member states.
Below is an overview of various door lock hardware products and their corresponding EU CE certification standards (EN standards), in compliance with the requirements of the Construction Product Regulation (CPR) (EU) No 305/2011.
EN Standards
1. Lock
EN 12209
Applies to mechanically operated locks, latches and lock plates, covering requirements such as durability, security, and fire resistance. The standard uses an 11-digit coding system to classify door quality, fire rating, corrosion resistance and other properties.
2. Hinges
EN 1935:2002/AC:2003
CE certification standard for single-axis hinges, covering static load deformation, shear strength, corrosion resistance, and additional fire door testing. Hinges must be classified using an 8-digit code, including usage categories (e.g., light load, heavy load) and durability cycle counts (e.g., 20,000 to 200,000 cycles).SDH offer hinges according to BS EN 1935 Grade 13.
Hinge Grade | Window/Door | Test Cycles | Door Mass |
1 | window | 10,000 | 10kg |
2 | window | 10,000 | 20kg |
3 | window/door | 25,000 | 20kg |
4 | door | 200,000 | 20kg |
5 | window | 10,000 | 40kg |
6 | window/door | 25,000 | 40kg |
7 | door | 200,000 | 40kg |
8 | window | 10,000 | 60kg |
9 | window/door | 25,000 | 60kg |
10 | door | 200,000 | 60kg |
11 | door | 200,000 | 80kg |
12 | door | 200,000 | 100kg |
13 | door | 200,000 | 120kg |
14 | door | 200,000 | 160kg |
3.Cylinder
EN 1303:2015
The CE certification standard for lock cylinders includes requirements for mechanical strength, resistance to drilling, and corrosion resistance. Lock cylinders must also undergo additional tests for anti-theft doors and fire doors.
4.Handle
EN 1906:2012
Standard for door handles and knobs. Test contents include mechanical strength, operating force, durability, etc. It is applicable to doors with different usage frequencies (such as residential doors and public place doors).
5.Door Closer
EN 1154:1996+A1:2002
Standard for door closing devices, testing the durability, closing force, temperature adaptability, etc. of door closers. Applicable to door closers with or without electronically controlled hold-open devices.
6.Panic Device
EN 179:2008
Emergency exit devices operated by push rods or handles, testing the rapid opening function and safety performance in emergency situations
7.Corrosion Resistance
EN 1670:2007
The corrosion resistance classification standard for building hardware is divided into 0-4 levels (no protection to very high protection), which is cited as a test basis by other standards (such as EN 1935, EN 12209).
8.Fire-rated
EN 1634-1:2014
Fire resistance test standard for fire door components, which must be used in conjunction with other product standards (such as additional tests for fire hinges in EN 1935).
Fire tests have 1-4 grades. The general test is 240 minutes. Intertek will do 260 minutes.
Locks, hinges, door closers, and panic devices must be tested for fire resistance
